Lessons In Godly Leadership From Moses - part 1

So much can be learned from the life of Moses.  In Exodus 4:24-26, we read something rather shocking...God was going to put Moses to death.  It seems like it comes out of no where.  Most commentators feel that this was because Moses was not obedient to the covenant that God had established with Abraham back in Genesis 17:10-14, that all the male children should be circumcised.  What is interesting is that this pattern of "cutting corners" (no pun intended) in Moses' leadership continues.  It ultimately keeps him from entering into the promised land with the remnant of Israel (Numbers 20:11-12).

Another lesson is that a leader usually does not receive instant gratification - which is an idol in our culture today.  In Exodus 5:22-23, Moses complains to the Lord that his initial pleadings with Pharaoh have not yielded any results.  In fact, it has made things worse.  It would take much more time before God had accomplished everything He wanted to do in and through Pharaoh, the Egyptian people, and the people of God, to prepare them for the Exodus.  It would also take many years in the wilderness before the remnant inherited the promised land (which is analogous to our journey of faith as Christians).
