Words as Windows of the Soul

There is often a theme that runs through a particular chapter in Proverbs.  Chapter 10 finds the words/mouth of the righteous being contrasted with that of the wicked.  Here is a survey:

"The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence." Proverbs 10:11

"On the lips of him who has understanding, wisdom is found, but a rod is for the back of him who lacks sense." Proverbs 10:13

"When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent." Proverbs 10:19

"The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of sense." Proverbs 10:21

"The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut off.  The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, but the mouth of the wicked, what is perverse." Proverbs 10:31, 32

Jesus says in Luke 6:45 that a man speaks from the overflow of his heart.  Our words reveal to a large extent what is in our hearts.
