Transient Trials

For anyone who is going through trials and suffering, the Lord, through the Apostle Paul, gives us great hope and encouragement. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 says,

"So we do not lose heart. Though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day. For this slight momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal."

Whether we are facing financial distress, physical suffering, loss of loved ones, or any other trial, it is momentary and transient. In other words, the pains and trials of this world are not eternal. They will come to an end. Compare the finiteness of our suffering with God, who is eternal and all of his promises and blessings, which are eternal. Joy in him is eternal. That is why Paul can say that they are slight and momentary.

Rejoice in God, all you children of the Lord, that even the hard things of life are serving the King of kings to accomplish his purposes. My trials aren't lord over me. Jesus Christ is my Lord and he commands the trials in my life for my good, to prepare me for glory.
