“I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.” Luke 19:40

war in the camp

Exodus 32:17 says, "When Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, 'There is a noise of war in the camp.' But he said, 'It is not the sound of shouting for victory, or the sound of the cry of defeat, but the sound of singing that I hear.'"

It is interesting that Joshua didn't leave the mountain as Aaron, his sons, and the seventy elders did back in Exodus 24. He stayed to wait for Moses. O how we need to wait for Christ. It seems as though Jesus has tarried for a while on the mountain but how my soul needs to wait for him. Don't go down to the camp and play.

Joshua hears the sound of war which was the people singing. Anytime we are sinning against God we are waging war against him. We are rebellious traitors. In our churches, how many Sunday mornings when we sing our praise songs does it sound like war in the camp? O God, guard our hearts from idolatry.
